THIRD REFLECTION ; Smart phone used as ict learning materials
SUBJECT; English V
Topic ; The ladybug Garden
On 3rd September we had a
field visit to learn the plants and insects living in the particular garden. To
my surprised I learnt that most of the students do not know the names either locally
nor English. Even they hadn’t seen most of the insects before. Therefore, out
of concern and curiosity, I planned to teach the lesson purely base on names
and pictures of the insects. Then on 4th September, I taught English
in class five through pictures and names base on the topic “The Ladybug
Garden.”
Before I go to the class I have used the UC
browser to down load the different types of insects and saved it in my
phone. I also down loaded which isn’t in
the text book so that students can recognize by them visually. My lesson starts
by showing picture one by one from easy to unknown insects.
In the process of learning, in fact students
were thrilled and know the names of the insects. Teaching through ICT, students
could relate the names and picture clearly and visually. The lesson was successful and meaningful as
students generated the knowledge through information and communication technology
out of method I delivered.
Although the lesson was boomed, but
I had a tough time to show the pictures in group wise. Therefore, I could not
carry out one of the activity. Henceforth I will try to use smart phone more by
borrowing from other friends.

Even as a teacher it is very difficult to name even few insects, plants, birds, trees etc. that are found in our own locality. I have coming up lesson on food chains in habitat in class v science. I will use your tactics to teach the above topic. Wonderful and innovative idea sir. Keep on exploring.
Salute to you sir, it is my previeledge to go through your post and I came to learn that u have downloaded some of the insects that are available in the locality but might not be included in the text. So your extra effort to help students will be always remembered and I will try to follow up the same in my coming days.
ReplyDeleteYou have used attractive pictures where your children can understand. Why can't you show the pictures and name on projector rather than using mobile phone. You might take more time while visiting to each team.

ReplyDeleteGood idea, however I am of view that such figures can be projected on the full screen using LCD projector, if available in the school.

Children haven't seen the thing so just forget on how they can name.
You taught them through ICT which gave them opportunities to see the unseen and know their names.
Yes sir, I do agree that we can get lots of information and pictures from the internet.
ReplyDeleteIt was your wise idea to use smartphone, however instead of borrowing phones from friend you may use LCD projector for wider coverage and give clear picture. Else you may use laptops in groups. Sometimes you can also assign your children to use their parents smartphone at home provided you give clear instruction. Great work!!!
ReplyDeleteICT gives us clear information but we are lacking the resources. It is one of the challenges we face. Anyways you are doing great!
